Peikko receives a large order to a shopping center in Latvia

Peikko’s subsidiary in Lithuania, UAB Peikko Lietuva, has received a notable order to a construction of a shopping and entertainment center Akropole located in Riga, Latvia. The order comprises over 176 tons of PSB Punching Reinforcement, 100 tons of various fastening items, more than 3,000 pcs of bolted connections, and 3,500 tons of steel structures. The deliveries are ongoing and the project is estimated to be finished in 2019.

The developer of the project is SIA M257 and Sarma & Norde Arhitekti is responsible for the architectural design. The main contractors of the project are SIA Merks (Latvia) and UAB Mitnija (Lithuania). Akropole will be one of the most modern shopping centers and office buildings in Riga, providing a wide choice of services and entertainment. The project fulfills the criteria of international BREEAM certification and therefore the requirements for construction are even higher than stated by Latvian law.

“So far this is Peikko’s biggest project in the Baltic region. We are pleased that so many different Peikko solutions were chosen for the construction of Akropole. In this project, our Punching Reinforcement System is used in an unconventional way in foundations. When using PSB foundations for increased resistance, less excavation work is required and the need for other construction materials, such as concrete, is reduced. This innovative way of constructing is not only environmentally sound but also saves time and costs”, states Topi Paananen, CEO of Peikko Group Corporation.
