Peikko launches a new, optimized column shoe for precasters and construction companies

Peikko’s new product BOLDA® Column Shoe was developed by its own Product Development organization to meet today’s needs for smaller cross-sections and higher loads. BOLDA® has European Technical Assessment (ETA), and it is the only ETA assessed Column Shoe for high loads in the world.

BOLDA® Column Shoes are used to form fast and safe connections between columns, or columns to foundations. They are used with PPM® High-Strength Anchor Bolts or COPRA® Anchoring Couplers to create moment-resisting column connections under heavy loading conditions.

The BOLDA® Column Shoe is highly optimized making it more compact than its competitors. This enables BOLDA® to be easily handled and installed. Thanks to BOLDA® Column Shoe’s efficient design, up to 24% smaller column cross-sections can be achieved to reduce material use and improve the use of space in buildings. Eurocode based design for BOLDA® column connection in erection, final and fire stages, as well as supplementary reinforcement, are available in Peikko Designer® design suite.

“BOLDA® Column Shoe system is the first new product introduction of Peikko in 2021, and there is more to come. Deliveries of BOLDA® have already started to our customers in Europe. We believe BOLDA® will have a significant business impact for us in the coming years, keeping Peikko in the forerunner position to provide connections for the precast sector,” says Topi Paananen, CEO of Peikko Group Corporation.

Bolted column connections are made with column shoes and anchor bolts
With bolted column connections, you can easily install columns to foundations and beams or make column-to-column connections. The connection is made with column shoes and anchor bolts. Column shoes are cast into precast concrete columns, whereas anchor bolts are cast into foundations or other columns. At construction sites, the columns are erected on the anchor bolts and adjusted to the correct level and vertical position by tightening nuts onto the anchor bolts.
