Thon Hotel Harstad is centrally located on the waterfront in Harstad with views of the Vågsfjord. The hotel was expanded and modernized in 2020 with a new conference wing, more hotel rooms and upgraded common areas. After the expansion, the hotel consists of around 190 rooms and a modern conference center with capacity for up to 500 participants.
Peikko has supplied a significant amount of DELTABEAM® to the project and we had some special cases here too. Consto requested slim floor structure for the new conference hall and we found a new solution for the 16-meter spans in the hall. Both cast-in-place and precast concrete and trusses had been considered, but in collaboration we solved the issue with DELTABEAM®. Due to several floors of hotel rooms above, as well as the large span, they didn't thought it would be possible with DELTABEAM®.
A senior engineer at Peikko’s headquarters started crunching numbers together with Ola Alm at Indira, and the result was a beam that only went 320 millimeters down from the slab.
